Georgia's Graduation

CONGRATULATIONS GEORGIA!!!!!
We're so proud of you!!!

Georgia is heading to Georgetown College in the fall with an undecided major.  She's an incredible caring person who's making wonderful choices.

Ophthalmology appointment today

Today Tom and I took Adelie to her annual appointment with the ophthalmologist.  He'd like to get a good look at her right eye to serve as a baseline.  He wants to do an ultrasound of her eyes while she'll be under anesthesia.  During this, she'll also have her tear ducts probed and irrigated - both her eyes have always been extra wet...she often has "tears" running down her cheeks from this - she's not crying, it's just her obstructed tear ducts.  This would be reason itself to do the whole proceedure, but he really wants the ultrasound and then he's just going to do this too.
Here's a website about the tear duct obstruction: http://kidshealth.org/parent/general/eyes/tear_duct_obstruct_surgery.html#
This will be done as out patient surgery at Cincinnati Children's Hospital at a date to be determined.

What Adelie Says...

Adelie is entertaining us with what she says everyday.    Here are some of this week's gems:

Adelie and I went to the park to have a storytime at a science day before the science program.  There is are nice folks from a church who bring a popcorn machine and lemonade.  Adelie had been feeling a bit under the weather this week (more on that below) so she was pretty quiet and shy.  When we walked under the shelter her face lit up and she leaned over to me and said,
"My mouth smells popcorn!"
Sometimes it IS like your mouth smells popcorn!

Last night Tom, Adelie and I were taking a walk and we could hear the ice cream truck off in the distance - it was nearby we could tell!  It seemed like it was getting closer, but it wasn't in view yet.  Adelie was dancing in the street (we live on a deadend street, which is off another deadend street) and getting quite excited.  She put her hand up to her EAR and said repeatedly,
"I can see the ice cream truck!"
She meant was that she could HEAR it.

The ice cream truck never made it to our street, so we decided to go to the old Dairy Queen in Latonia.  Martin and Camille went too.  We were talking about Dairy Queen the whole way there and when we arrived, Adelie said,
"FAIRY QUEEN!!!"  Fairy Queen!"

Here she is at "Fairy Queen" in a new dress Momma made her.  We were at the fabric store and she fell in love with this fabric for a dress.

For the first time in the 16 months that Adelie has been a part of our family, she got a fever this week.  On Tuesday, when we realized she was sick was when she said
"My head owwie - I don't (didn't) bonk it."
She didn't know what was making her head feel that way.  She had a virus that just gave her a temperature and a sore throat and she was the sweetest kid with a fever.  She's all better now.

It's a busy month at the Wartman home - May is always busy with all the end of the year school events.  This year GEORGIA IS GRADUATING!!!  Her actual graduation is June 4th, which is Tom's and my 20th anniversary.  Pretty cool!  We're having a graduation party on June 14th at our house - wanna come?

Life is grand!

Adelie gets glasses

Hi!
Things are going very well.  The weather is getting better and that means we get to play outside more.  We went to the Cincinnati Natural History Museum last week and spent 2 hours in the sandbox - what fun!!  We also went through the ice cave 3 times.  Adelie got her pink glasses today.  They are blanks - she has them just to protect her left eye.  And she enjoys wearing them (so far).  She doesn't HAVE to wear them, but it's a good idea, especially if "doing anything that might be dangerous to her eyes, like some sports."

3 year old check up, Senior Dinner Dance, snow pictures and more

Adelie's 3 yr well check up was great today - Dr Cunha is fantastic.    She weighs 30.5 lbs and is 37 1/2 inches tall.
Healthy kid!!

We had a whopper of a snow a couple weeks ago - 5 inches of snow, then an inch of ice, then 5 more inches of snow.  The first 3 pics are taken by 10 year old Camille.

Here are Camille, Adelie and Georgia enjoying the snow.  What a fun, fun time they had!!

Georgia and friends got all dressed up for the Senior Dinner Dance - Adelie wanted to get dressed up too!

Pretty girls!!

Adelie always lies down in her bath just like this, bubbles or not!

Martin and Adelie have such fun together.

Rainbow out our front door yesterday!

Adelie's 1 year Gotcha Day Video

This is a video showing what an incredible difference Adelie's first year with us made. Adelie was placed in my arms on 1/20/08.  Everything changed for her.  WOW! We love our family!!!

Christmas dancing

Here's a fun video that my niece Hazel took of their daughter Sage and Adelie a few days before Christmas.  Hazel made Adelie a tutu for Christmas and gave her an Angelina Ballerina book - what a hit!  Thanks Hazel for putting this on you tube so I could put it up too.

3 yr old pictures

There are so many things to catch up on here with you.  Christmas, Adelie's 3rd birthday and we're coming up on her 1 year anniversary of Gotcha Day.  Here are a couple pictures we had taken today when we got her passport pictures taken. We're heading to Rome, Italy on the Usborne Books at Home incentive trip on March 31st and Adelie needs her US passport!  She did so well for the passport pictures that I asked the nice girl to see how Adelie would do for a regular photo session.  She did great!
Here are a couple of my favorites:

Ramen Noodle Egg Drop Soup!

Our big kids like Ramen noodles so Adelie eats them too and I've had kinda a hard time with her filling up on that which wasn't very nutritious.  SO....now we have Ramen Noodle Egg Drop Soup!  I boil the water for the noodles, then put in the egg and stir, once it's all cooked, I add the noodles and continue as usual.  TAA DAA!  It's a bit better for her and yummy too!
